For the Children

For You
by Carla M. Brown

I dream for you.
For the things you’ll become
when things are undone
because I’ve taught you to sum
the collective of your talents,
tenacity, and audacity of hope.
You are fierce.

I sing for you.
Your praises through the ages
when you solve life’s mazes
for I know there’ll be pages
you turn that surprise you
and realize you may make mistakes.
You are resilient.

I fight for you.
For your chance to thrive
the opportunity to strive
to experience the life
you deserve, that we’ve earned
because there is none like you.
You are priceless.

I breathe for you.
I press through each day
that I may find ways
and the right words to say
to bring about change
so you won’t ever cave.
You are loved.
